Wow, Julie, you are phenomenal at that! Do you have artistic training? Because although I've been meaning to try that technique but haven't, I do totally get how tricky it is and how much artistry and talent has to go into it. Awesome awesome awesome!

Thanks again Kim and Kyla. Yes, I do have artistic training. I went to art school in a former life (longer ago than I care to remember:) I used to love oils, but due to money, space, and fume reasons I've barely painted in years. Cakes are a fun substitute artistic outlet though.

wowza! Julie, if you're ever in Texas, you better stop by and show us how to do that stuff! It's amazing!

Thanks Metria; here's a nice tutorial by the Whimsical Bakehouse people. The only thing I do different is to use a blank piece of paper to do the shading

I did get excited when I saw that the cake show in Austin is on my birthday this year, but then I consulted Google maps and saw the drive is like 22-23hours from where I live:( It looks like a lot of fun, and fun themes

The Austin cake show is the mostestest bestestest funestestest cake show ever, and I say that as a writer who knows how utterly wrong those words are. That's right, the Austin cake show is so good, it broke my grammar. ;)

Thanks for posting the link! I read the Whimsical Bakehouse book out of the library awhile back and have wanted to try some of the more basic reverse chocolate designs but all I've done is some ladybugs. That PDF is great for the finer art of the portraiture. Very inspirational, thanks!

Ooo that's definitely easier....and works for Halloween pumpkins too. I did it with Anthony LaPaglia awhile back: http://kimberlychapman.com/crafts/pumpkins.html

Well thanks Kim for telling me how great the cake show that is too far from my house is. What do you do in your spare time; taunt lactose intolerant children with ice cream? :) :P

Hey, I'm the PR lady...it's my job to make you want to come regardless of distance. :D
