cookie recipe

can any1 give me a foolproof recipe for a cookie, such as chocolate chip.  I have a recipe for the kind of flat cookie, the kind that you would decorate.  But i have tried about 3 recipes lately to get the kind of cookie you would buy in the supermarket.  (I'll not name any brands as i live in scotland and prob won't have heard of this brand)The kind of bumpy cookie.  I hope i'm explaining myself clearly
