Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

Just trying to get creative with ideas. I've done so many wedding cakes that I like breaking out and thinking outside of the box. I just put this one on my cake blog.  Any other ideas for shaped cakes???

This is adorable! Love it! Check out http://www.flickr.com/groups/thats-a-cake/pool/with/5607839403/ There are a bunch of shaped cakes. You can also search Flickr for "shaped cakes" and you should get a bunch of ideas.
Thanks!

The cake in my profile pic is a little different.  Not too far fetched but still fun :) For the top tier I did a 6" on top of a 4" and flipped it over and carved out.  Did the same throughout the tiers.  Your cakes are beautiful by the way!!

Hi , i have just joined the community and am just noseing around , i've been making cakes for about 8 years , only as a hobbie but i do do a lot of 3D shaped cakes , some good , some not so good , some easy and some so not easy . Have a look at www.mbcakes.co.uk see what you think !

I have only been in the community a day and have already picked up some hints and tips to solve a few tricky problems i have had in the past , so i would like to thankyou all !! I have had no training and make a lot of it up as i go !! but i am always so busy.

Thanks Heather!  I love your profile pic!  I really want to do a topsy turvy cake tutorial soon.  Its such a fun design.

PS  My blog is doing a gift card giveaway if you are interested.  It kind of helps ease the expenses of an expensive hobby like caking :)

Thanks :)  And I'll definitely check it out!

BEAUTIFUL

Thanks Wilda!  I'll probably post a video tutorial for this cake at some point on my blog, if you're feeling adventurous!
I tried to make a mounted deer head cake. I made the head out of rice treats and when I added the antlers they kept falling forward to the nose of the head. I tried for hours to get them to stay but no luck. You stated that you do 3D cakes and I was wondering if you had any ideas how i could of done this???

Did you shove a skewer in there and secure it with white chocolate and then put them in the cake?

I have a brief description of how I did it on my blog: http://sugarturntable.com/?p=199.  I also plan on doing a tutorial on this particular design within the next month or two.

Bonnie I would use royal icing and sharpened dowels to fix antlers on.
