Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

My son wants a particular theme for his birthday party. I want to use cupcakes as his "cake" so we don't have to cut, plate and hand out forks. I have found a topper for his theme but it's for a sheet style cake. My question is can I arrange the cupcakes in a sheet style then lay the topper over it? I though maybe do that then use a razorblade to score the topper so it doesn't pull apart when it's time to hand them out? Has anyone done this and are there any concerns?

I have not tried this technique but i know that the image will adhere itself to the icing and it will not be very convenient when you pull it apart.I work for a company called PhotoFrost and we manufacture edible sheets and inks for cakes, cupcakes, cookies chocolate, etc. We have a teplate for printing designs on cupcakes and all of our products are Kosher and FDA approved. If I can help you out in any way please let me know. thank you Stephanie at letsdecorate@photofrost.com
How about square cupcakes? You could cut the topper up (maybe) and arrange it jigsaw like. A complete stab in the dark & I've not tried making square cupcakes. What's your theme?
He's a big Halo Reach fan and I found some great printed toppers but they are all for sheet cakes. My thought was to have white cupcakes and form them out into a rectangle, lay the topper on it then slice with an exacto blade so they'll seperate. Not sure how those toppers will slice though; whether they will cut cleanly or tear.
How about a cupcake cake?  They are awesome - and the icing is not a mess at all.  I have a webshots tutorial if you need it - They are all over the internet.  You may need to help the image along - but it's not a big deal.
