Tools for Kitchen aid

My son just gave me a Kitchen aid. When I washed the mixers in the dish washer they came out with this gray dust all over them. I had to wash them by hand to get it off. It didnt happen to the wire whisker. Did I do something wrong?

What you see is a chemical reaction between the metal and your water (hard) or you detergent. Try using a detergent without citrus. I had a similar issue with my table knives and the manufacturer recommended Walmart brand dishwasher detergent.
