In my opinion the Cricut is just replacing the constant purchasing of cutters! Think about this, you still have to roll out the fondant or whatever your using. Think about how boring a cricut cut flower would look unless you frilled the edges of it. You can still add luster dust to the cut pieces or dregee's, what-have-you. You still have to use your own creative mind and hands to get the job done. It isn't like a commercial cake machine that makes the cakes, frosts the cakes and decorates the cakes, and you get to box them.
I purchased a bread maker when they first came out and within a few months gave it away because I couldn't use my hands. I felt I couldn't say I made the bread because really all I did was add the ingredience and add water! Nooo fun for me. So I considered that before I purchased my Cricut Cake, because I still want to be creative and do the work myself.
Hi everyone,
I am new to this forum. I stayed up until midnight and ordered one. I am so excited. It is supposed to arrive on the 26th. Cant wait.
Me too, don't know why it takes so long! I'm gonna go nuts waiting!

Well, I just checked HSN and, even if I wanted one, I can't afford it! LOL! Looks like it's hand cutters for me for a while anyway. :)

I do understand that it's just for flat elements and can really streamline things for large volume. Thank goodness they haven't made a cutter yet that can do figures.
Originally I wasn't going to spend the money to get the cake model and was going to just get the regular model and make it adapt like so many others have done, but by the time i paid for all that it would have worked out about the same price. If they didn't have the 5 pay, i wouldn't have bought it and would have to wait to save up some $$ for it. just haven't told the hubby about that yet... oh well... my money. :-)
Oh yah! I'm sure I wouldn't get one of those, then all the fun is gone.

Well your kind of incorrect about it being just for flat elements. If you cut out a flower shape you can put in in something to dry so that when it is applied to the cake it is not flat. (hope that makes sense) so the possibilities are really endless.

I am concerned however that I didnt find out about the license that you have to purchase to sell the cakes until AFTER i already purchased it. There has been no price noted on the license yet so I am hoping it not expensive. The debate is....how can you put a license on fonts and shapes that already exist.....well i am gonna wait and see what happens. If I dont like how this is handled I will return it to HSN. You can however use the SCAL (Sure cuts alot) software with the cricut cake and wont have to buy the cartridges, but the flip side to that is that I "heard" that the warranty will be voided it you do that. Not sure if its true though.

I'm interested on the licensing issue as well. i didn't watch the whole episode when it premiered and didn't even see that part of the presentation people have been talking about. just how the lady kept saying, sale one of these for $$ and you'll pay for the machine. i'm sure that the licensing info will hit once the deliveries start going out. the wedding cake cartridge is one of the reasons i went ahead and ordered it so that i would have that "extra" included in the price.

There was never a presentation on HSN about the liscence. I just happened to look at the cricut website and they have it listed there to purchase, but it says its not available yet. From what I understand they have not figured out how much to charge for it yet. At this point I dont feel that you can offer a product and then after it has been purchased you reveal a liscence. HSN is going to have a lot of returns because of it.
I have good new! I just found out that the license has been deleted from the cricut cake site (i just looked myself to verify it). so i guess that means there will be no liscence.
Praise the Lord because that was something I hadn't even considered!
I ordered mine! Can't wait to play with it... i have 2 cakes comming up and I think it will cut my time in half. whoo hooo
