Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

Good morning,

Before posting i always check the forums or pictures for threads on a topic, but for the life of me i can't find anything on Teapots or Teacup cakes!!! I see pictures but no instructions on how to do this type of cake.  Unless i missed it!?

I have an inquiry for a teapot or teacup shaped cake for 25 people.  It is for a birthday.

How do I even start with a cake like this?  What type of pan?  Would my Wilton Doll Pan work?  And how much would I even charge?

Any thoughts/suggestions would be great!

Thank you!!

The teapot I put on top of my Alice in Wonderland cake was made with the sports ball pan, but it wouldn't feed 25 people.  The mini ball pan would make a nice wide teacup shape.  You could do a pot and several cups on top of a single-layer, torted 10" cake and make it look like a serving set.  Just a thought! :)
this is the tutorial I used for my teapot cake but it would not feed anywhere near 25 people.

Ladies you are awesome!! :) Thank you so much...

Do you think the Wilton Doll Pan would work as well?

Just in your opinion, how much would you charge for this type of cake? Say the Teapot ontop of another single-layer cake?  Enough to feed 25 ppl...

The doll pan should work.  Teapots come in all different shapes.     My guess on the price would be no less than $75 but that just depends on your area.
I used the wilton doll pan for my teacup cake. It's here on shutterfly: http://lasombra.shutterfly.com/142

I cut the smaller end of the cake of to make it more stable and wouldn't fall over. It's covered in fondant and I used fondant for the handle. Make sure you leave enough time for the fondant on the handle to dry, if you do that. Mine was a little droopy :(

I made a teapot cake for a customer's grandmother.  The teapot was made out of the wilton sports ball pan.  I place the teapot on a "table" made out of a 10" square cake...that would certainly serve 25.  I charged $75 for the cake.  I made the tea cup, spoon, and napkin out of gumpaste...I also made the handle and spout out of gumpaste and after they dried attached them with toothpicks.  You can see the pix on my page.

Hope this helps!

Good luck!

Thanks ladies for the tips!!!

Gina - did you make your own rice cereal treats or just store bought?
