How do I make my frosting look like straw?
Has anyone made a cake that resembles a straw bale?

I think Wilton has a tutorial on their site.  I haven't been there in years, but I could swear they have one.
So how do I go and find the tutorial? What is it like?

go to wilton.com

Browse decorating techniques.  I don;t have time to surf.  But this will get you started:

How about using a garlic press? Another site I visit suggested using dyed coconut or even just using shredded wheat.
Woops! I meant to add a Wilton link that I found. Haven't read through it, but you can see what you think.  http://www.wilton.com/forums/messageview.cfm?catid=8&threadid=1...

Here is another link for you to browse through. It has several techniques.

I saw these links online & saved them  for inspiration and technique; hope it helps...

You could possibly use PhotoFrost sheets in the yellow, brown and gold Shimmer sheet and cut it into strips or even copy an image of straw onto a PhotoFrost sheet.

I saved this because it is so nice.  I didn't make it, but it looks like it's airbrushed.

Wow what a cute cake! I would call that straw for sure.
I had to make a bale of hay a few months ago. I tried a few different tips & knew it would take forever going that route. I finally looked around my house & came up with this. I iced the cake in buttercream & then used a hair pick & ran it back & forth over it until it resembled hay. This worked perfect & some of my cake friends have already adopted this idea.
