Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

I really want to start a bakery. Does any know if there is an average amount you need to start a bakery?

Thanks for the info this is exactly what i was looking for!!
maybe you could start in your home, build your business, then work towards opening a bakery. Alot start that way.
that was my intention, but apparently it is against the law in texas to sell bake goods out of your home. even though san antonio is huge i stll have to be carefull. but the bight side is a friend of mine and i are brainstorming and seeing what we can do. i'll still do it out of the house for now lol.

Yes, be very careful about selling cakes from your home. The local and State HD's are on the warpath to shut down illegal bakers right now due to the fact that our bill (The Baker's Bill) made it through committee last year. It died on the floor due to the late date it passed from the committee. The fine, if you are caught, is $500 per occurance, meaning for every item you sold from the time you started selling cakes they can charge you $500. The amount can stack up quite quickly and put you out of business before you ever really get started. If you haven't joined already please become a part of the movement to get this law changed. http://www.cakeswebake.com/group/texasbakerslaw

The way the HD is catching so many is pure ignorance of the law and so many cakers advertising on FB, MySpace, and Craigslist. They have agents that do nothing all day except comb the web looking for illegal bakers and caterers.
I found a mock business plan on www.earlenes.com It was very helpful when I started mine. Best of luck
Hi Bakers, I have the same idea. I have always enjoyed baking and plan to take those Wilton classes for cake decoration. My goal is to sell out of my home to my clients from the Hair Salon since I rent my chair and eventually someday open a Bakery.
Anything is possible and dreams come true if we want them. So whoever reads my comment...remember you know what you want and never let others bring you down.. Best of luck to all..
