I made my first wedding cake this week. It's big'un. The wedding is today. I just stacked the tiers last night, and I woke up this morning on the verge of a full on panic attack. The tiers are 18", 14", 10", and 6". Does anyone know how much weight Wilton Baker's Best pillars can support? I can't stop having visions of the cake collapsing on itself. The Baker's Best pillars were cut to 5" from their original 7. I've been trying to go check Wilton's site for information on this, but it keeps saying "service unavailable." I am FREAKING out. Someone please help? Oh, also, the bride is one of my best friends and I'm in the wedding, so the sooner anyone can give me any info the better so I can stop my worrying!!!
Since I can't edit my post, I'd like to add that while I appreciate empathy for the situation, I'd prefer not to need to check replies to this thread and get my hopes up if the post is not a legitimate response to my question. Thanks again to anyone who has some info to share.
I do not know how much weight they hold. Are you leaving it stacked over night? I would not do that unless you have a dowel down the center and plenty of support on every tier. I use wooden dowels or the poly dowels and do not have any problems but I usually do not stack the cake until the day of the wedding. If I am using my cakestackers system I can stack it ahead without any problems though. Good luck sounds like you will have a busy day!
I did not have a dowel down the center. The wedding reception started about 7 hours ago, I did leave the cake stacked over night, and it was absolutely perfect. So to answer my own questijn, they hold a lot of weight.
Have you considered the sps system? it's similar to the Wilton but locks and is reasonable. I have not yet tried it but many cakers recommend this on CC.
Glad it all worked out! Most dowels or poly dowels are pretty sturdy. I would have been nervous about moving a cake that did not have a center dowel though... you are brave girl!
You are brave, I use a center dowl on anything over three tiers. The bakery I worked at in grad school always used center dowels!!! Glad it all worked out for you!!
