Hi there,  i use Satin Ice and i've had no major problems with it.  You can search in the forums for this discussion as i'm sure there is one and there is a lot of useful information on it too!!

In terms of covering your cake....are you saying that your crumb coat on top of your cake is chocolate BC?  I'm not so sure if that would be a good idea...in case the fondant rips you will see chocolate through it...but i've never tried it! Perhaps you would have to make the fondant a little thicker then normal for the chocolate to not show through?

I would also like to know if this is possible...?

Well I love Satin Ice fondant.  It is very easy to work with and I found it at this website, http://www.fondantsource.com/saicefo.html for a nice price (the link is also in a fourm on here for cake supplies).  I do find that it gets dry fast, so you have to keep it covered and use a little shorting with it.

I think that if you use a colored fondant you wouldn't have the problem of the chocolate showing through, but that is the only reason that chocolate would not be good.....Other then that, it should work the same as a white buttercream.

I've covered chocolate buttercream cakes with white and Ivory fondant without issues. If the buttercream shows through a cake due to a rip...it must a be a big rip that I would mask if I"m adding stripes, polka dot or even stars. If I just need plain white cakes and It has a rip where brown stuff is oozing out...then I would remove and apply new fondant...I would go a little thicker with this one..

Overall you should be fine

I love Satin Ice, also.  I do tend to need to roll mine thicker though on the rare occassion I need to place chocolate icing under it.  It's not one of my favorite things tho do.  Yes, this is due to decorator error, I'm sure, not the Satin Ice, since other people do it successfully.
Hello, I would not recommend using chocolate for a light color fondant as you may be able to see some of the chocolate.  Satin Ice is real easy to work with, but I recommend adding some additional flavor like almond extract to better the taste.  Also, if you wish to use chocolate buttercream for your crumb coat you may want to use chocolate fondant to cover your cake.  I hope this helps!  Nelly

Hi Nelly,

Are you suggesting to put additional flavoring by putting drops of in on the fondant, and then kneading?

Yes - that is what she is suggesting.  I've done it.  It works really well.  I add lemon for lemon cakes, Almond, Vanilla, whatever I need.

yes, even though they have perfected the flavor if you prefer more flavor it could just be added.   Satin Ice has new colors available now also.  I hope this helps.

Thats awesome i did not know you could do that!

I will try it soon!

Satin Ice fondant is very easy to work with, I like it better than others I've  worked with...

I would not use chocolate with foudant because chocolate can break down foudant, however I'm

not sure  of what kind of chocolate you are speaking of.

Hi! I use Satin Ice fondant , & loving it...I've tried covering cakes iced w/ ganache in light colored fondant & it worked fine... you just have to be precise of size to roll & thickness, so it won't tear ... hope this helps
