Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

Hey all,

Need a helpful word of advice. I'd like to make some cupcakes covered with fondant, but when my cupcakes baked, they have a bit of a dome to them. My question is, should I cut the tops off and then ice them? Or should I ice them as is and then throw the fondant on top?

And does anyone know any helpful hints as to how to achieve the perfect shape to cover them? I've seen videos using the ends of glass cups or cookie cutters to achieve the round shape...any advice would help, thanks fellow bakers!

the dome depends on personal preference i guess.  then, measure straight across your tops for the diameter and use that size (or close to it) circle cutter. b/c your fondant will stretch when you place it on, slightly smaller would probably be best.
