Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

hi everyone. I usually don't have a problem coloring fondant but tha past four days my colored fondant after a few hours starts to fade a lot from the outside but the color is still ok on the inside. After kneading, color returns. The problem is with the fondant decoration cut outs. When I leave them out to dry a little the color fades but when I put them in the fridge that keeps the color. I don't know why it does that
anyone can help ?

Nadah - it sounds to me like they are drying out on the surface.  Maybe the room is too warm for them?  There are a couple of things that I think you could do that might help.  Is it just fondant you are using or is it mixed with Tylo or gumpaste or similar?.  You could try steaming them to set the colour.  I don't have a steamer, but holding them over a steaming kettle for a few seconds I found works wonders with colour (thanks to various members of this site for that tip).  Or spraying with edible glaze.  Or brushing them with a little melted Crisco, Trex, lard whatever you call it where you come from.  Basically, anything that will prevent the surface being in direct contact with the air.

Firstly, what are you using to color your fondant? Are you using something different than you normally do? A good quality food coloring will mix well with fondant or gumpaste. Have you changed your brand of fondant?? Different fondants sometimes take colors differently. Also, you should not be putting your cut outs in the fridge. They will absorb moisture and then when you bring them back out again, the color may change as the moisture dries out from your cut outs. Best to leave your cut outs to dry out at room temperature. As Katy said in her post, to set the color, you can steam them, glaze them ( corn syrup mixed with alcohol ), shortening, or dust with lustre dust.
Hope this helps.
