You didn't say when it is due. Do you have time to practice? I'm told using a stencil with thinned buttercream on fondant works well, but may take some practice. (This is one of those techniques to practice on my to-do list).
I have to do some black scrollwork on a fondant cake and wondered if this would this work on a round fondant cake, or just a square--that is, flat--cake? Would love to know.

You could also purchase the fleur de leis molds and make them out of fondant or gumpaste. I am pretty sure Global Sugar Arts has them and also First Impressions Molds. Satin Ice makes a very nice black fondant that works well... If you prefer to pipe them out of royal icing you can do them ahead of time and let them dry so you don't actually have to pipe them onto the cake which with black can be tricky! You can print your design of the computer whatever size you want it to be. Tape the paper to the table and then tape wax paper over the top of it. You can outline your design then fill it in with royal icing and allow it to set up and dry. Once dry the wax paper can be peeled off the back and you can attach it with a few dots of royal icing on the back.
