Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

Hi everyone,I hope you are all well :-)

Ive been asked to do a 40th Wedding Anniversary Cake for the 20th of this month, and i need some ideas? Ive been making coffee cakes for the couple for a number of weeks now and they have asked me to do thier anniversary cake! So i want it to be brill.

Ive seen some pictures but im not sure what to go with. Its to be either an 8 or 9 " cake and has to have 40th on it basically. Although i think it needs a little something else or it will just look like a birthday cake !!!

Thanks for any help

Lis

Hi Lis - yes, I believe you can use rejuvenator spirit to thin your gel.  Embossing mat - fab, lucky you!

lol - I have had the odd mishap with steaming, mostly because I've left them in the steam too long and they've gone floppy...........

Thanks Katy, ive bought an embossing mat and a flower former ( a Petunia) had to pay a little extra to get them in time but worth it. Ive got some rejuvenator could I use that to thin the gel ?

I will try the steaming too hopefully they wont fall in the kettle spout LOL

Oh no ! I hope I don't have the same prob !!

If you hear any screaming i've dropped one inside the kettle lol

I saw a steamer in my local charity shop yesterday, mite be worth getting !

The embossing mat was only £4.15, thought that was quite reasonable. I had to get one to do all the cakes at easter !

Thanks again

After the usual sleepless nights lol, here is what I've done ???

Their son had already got something for the "40 " to put on it so I didn't have to worry about the piping !!

 What do you think ?

Beautiful Lisa - just right I would say.  Your flower spray is gorgeous, well done!

Thank you so much Katy, I did think about putting a red ribbon round but it didn't look right at all, was too much. Glad I got it right, I hadn't done a flower spray before !

I would of liked it to of been a deeper cake but it was only for two people and they didn't want a huge cake. using 2 normal 8" tins wouldn't of been deep enough and 2 of my 3" deep tins would of been too much !

A closer shot of the flowers. They look wet but its the lustre dust. I learnt a lot from doing this one. I loved doing the flower spray !!

Thank again Katy

I think you're right about the ribbon, it would have cluttered it.  Gosh, they're really glossy and lush

Had to use bf s camera with the flash so they look like there wet but I would of liked the plain red roses a little darker, like your roses. Bf took the pics lol ! he said it looked "stunning" ( that was a shock from him lol ) and he took the pictures.   Would love to do another like this.

Thanks Katy.
