Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

I have entered a contest , comfort dessert ... i have entered a Maple walnut cake with brown sugar cream cheese icing and was wondering if there is something i could use , maybe as a garnish to throw off the sweetness of the cake alittle.... I don't want it to be to sweet and uses of flavoring is one of the categories being judged ... any help appreciated. I am more the decorator than the baker, so I am at a loss for ideas...

Thanks for any help suggested

Garnish with Walnuts.  They are not sweet and they are pretty to look at.

silly thought but i've been seeing it a lot... bacon. goes perfect with maple. lots of cupcake makers have used it sprinkled on peanutbutter/banana (elvis) cupcakes. salty/sweet combo is wicked popular now.
