Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

Thank goodness I'm brave and will share with a smile!
Saturday I made my Chocolate Hershey's Cake with Chocolate Buttercream.
It was fun to make and I really enjoyed myself.
What I had in mind did not come to fruition.  What I wanted to do is a combination of White BC & Chocolate BC with green BC leaves.  I got ahead of myself and didn't split my BC and it became all Chocolate BC.  So now plan B.  Now, there is nothing wrong with that except when you go to taste the Chocolate BC and find out that it is the BEST STUFF EVER!  More of it ends up in your mouth than your cake!  All I can think of is: Yikes, tomorrow morning I'm going to pay for this - I'll have one chocolate gift on my face, a pimple!  NO PICTURE OF THAT but it did happen.  LOL.

My roses were different, I still need a lot of practice!  I did a border for the first time and I really have get my rhythm down better.  Yet, I'm not giving up!  I almost got the whole thing smoothed with a few exception.  Notice how my pictures below will not be a close-up.

I can't wait to make my next one.  Oh, I gave 1/3 of the cake to a good friend last night for his dessert.  Thank goodness he is 95 years old, in a few more days he will be 96 and he doesn't see all of the imperfections!   The rest of the cake is sitting and I need to give it to the little kids next door.  Yes, I tasted it.  Yummy!

It looks great Sher! Was there an occasion or just practicing? I have a suggestion (hope you don't mind!), next time you're doing the border, try it with the bag across your palm, and your palm facing upward. I feel like a have more control when I do it like that.....
We're in chocolate mode today too, chocolate brownies trying to make into pops, we'll see!
Oh, I never mind suggestions at all. This is your recipe from your video! I used Dark Chocolate instead of the cocoa from Hershey's and I had to go to THREE different stores to get the block of hershey's chocolate for the BC. I had so much fun and I'm made it for fun, practice and getting my hands more into caking! Your suggestion, I get it! I had to actually place my hands as you described when reading it. Thanks! Working up to a cake for this coming month that I've had in my head now for three months!
Thanks again, I really appreciate it! I love being a beginner on this site! Everyone is so helpful and fun!
Every Day is a Chocolate Day! Oh, I hope you post a picture of your chocolate brownies that will be pops! I love fun ideas!

It looks very pretty and soooo yummmmy!
I don't think I'll post pics, they were pretty messy but delicious. It's another Hershey recipe and it's for a contest so we have more experimenting to do ;D lol-so hard to diet when experimenting with baked goods!!
It looks better than you described. We are our worst critic. Keep up the good work.
You're so cute Sher! :) I love those pictures! I do have a suggestion too, if you don't mind. If you use a cake board that gives you at least 2 inches around your borders will be easier because you'll be able to have more room to move. So if you made a 9" or 10" cake, put it on a 12" board, 8" cake on a 10" board, etc. :) Easier to pick up too! Happy caking, you're doing great!
Sher... looks like you were having a blast! I was going to suggest the same about holding the bag differently... I know sometimes I do things all backwards from what is the norm and it works for me but holding bags... there is some rhyme and reason to that. You did wonderful and looks like you had fun at the same time!
Sher, I love your photos and your cake looks fantastic. Chocolate buttercream is the best! and you're right about more ending up in your mouth than on the cake! Don't think of them as imperfections, think of them as beauty marks! :)
Oh, Thank You! I bet you are so right! Especially since when I cut into it the bottom border, well, some of it fell off. LOL.
Okay, I'll have my Honey cut some more of them for me! Great suggestion!

Sher

Now that is a great saying, I'm going to use that and share it with friends! Thanks so much!

I did have the best time! If you can't have fun then there is no use in doing something! Thanks!
