Hi!

I have been asked to have the color of fondant for a cake MAUVE.  I got the sample color from the client.  See link:

Does anyone know how i can achieve this color?  I usually use Americolor brand.  They also have a MAUVE color, but it's pink!!! Weird!!!

PLEASE HELP!! This cake is for Friday!!!

I'm not the best at colouring Meera...but do you have violet or purple that you can "dilute"?

Add a little bit of the purple to the americolor mauve and see what happens. If I'm not mistaken mauve is like a shade of pink with purple undertones. That sample you are showing looks more like purple/grey color. Good luck!

Mauve is a bit lighter than purple.  I would suggest to start off with your purple and your white icing or "fondant" or whatever you are using, then slowly add and mix the purple into it until you reach your desired color of your sample that your client gave you.

In my own short experience of doing this especially purple (my most favorite color in any shade) after it sits overnight it does get a tiny bit more intense, just a little - not enough to be out of whack of your sample when trying to make it yourself.

On my cake page, I do have a lighter shade of purple fondant and icing is darker on my cake with pink.

On my blog I have a very dark purple fondant on cookies with a lighter shade of purple for icing.

All of which some people call it mauve, a lighter color of purple but darker than lilac.  In your sample, it is my opinion that it is a light shade of purple without any shade of pink.

Try a test with a small amount of fondant and do different fondant samples of shades to compare overnight.  I'm assuming you have plenty of time before this project is required.

Good luck and have fun!

Here is the Satin Ice Color guide.... you might try mixing the lavendar with the pink see what happens...

Your Americolor mauve is the correct color. The sample color is lavender in my opinion, have a look at this cake, this is what mauve is supposed to look like.

This colour looks a lot like the colour I get from Sugarflair's 'Heather'.
