Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

I'm looking for a Margarita cake recipe and was hoping someone here could help. Here's what I have tried--

1 White cake mix
1 c flour
1 c sugar
3/4 t salt
1 pkg vanilla pudding
4 whole eggs
7 oz frozen concentrated margarita mix (Bacardi)
enough tequila to make the 1-1/3 c liquid
1 c sour cream

The cake was good, good texture and everything. The margarita flavor just wasn't quite up front enough for me. Had a few taste testers say the same.

Any suggestions - lime zest, triple sec?

Definitely try the lime zest and triple sec. Also I've seen recipes that use a lemon cake mix.
i use a lemon cake mix w/lime jello in my key lime cake, just a thought.
That sounds good too.
Thanks All! Maybe the 3rd or 4th time will be the charm. :-)
Isn't it great that our families don't ever get tired of eating/testing our experiments?
I tried the recipe you had posted but I used lemon pudding mix and lime zest. Instead of the Bacardi mix I used a 1/4 cup of fresh lime juice, 1/4 dup tequila, 2 tablespoons triple sec and added enough water to make 1-1/3 cups liquid. It tastes really good (I ate the scraps from when I leveled the cake) but the true test will be when my girls come home from school tomorrow for Spring break. I made them a hula girl doll cake. Since they can't afford to go anywhere for Spring break, I thought I'd bring the Tropics to them. :o)
Thanks Kathy. Please let me know how the girls like it.
oh that sounds yummy
did you also use 1 c of sour cream?
Slavka.

Thanks...
The margarita cake was a big hit with my daughters and a boyfriend. It was really moist.
