Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

Hey ladies,

My sister just bought a new house and i thought i'd make her a cake.  Any ideas on a nice and simple cake I could make for her?

One of my ideas was to make an edible house to put on top of a round cake.  Any thoughts of how I can do this?

Thanks!!

Meera, a couple of thoughts come to mind:

Wilton sells the cutest little house cake pan, you can usually find it at Michaels or Joann's.

You can make an edible house cake topper out of gum paste using a gingerbread house pattern.

or you can carve a simple a frame shape out of cake, it really wouldn't be too hard.

You can make a house either using the wilton pan like sherry said, or even use the cottage patchwork cutter, put some flowers around the cottage.
depending on how big you were gonna make the house, you could use grahm crackers, you could glue them together with royal icing. & then decorate the house with icing also. I used grahm crackers for my tomestones on my 1/2 graveyard horse pen cake. they were fairly easy to carve, just have to use very light pressure. A friend wants me to make her fiances bday cake next month & he is a bigtime duck hunter, so I plan on putting a little hunting blind on the edge of a pond & i'm going to do the blind out of grahm crackers
Did you take a picture of your house cake?
Hey ladies,

I did not end up making this cake ....it wasn't needed! Hopefully sometime in the future!!
