That "strip" I pinned on Pinterest. I am a member of quirky.com, where people go to get inventions started. The quirky "community " votes on the viability of a product, it's "sale-ability". That strip was a great idea for bakers. Save $100 in types of pans. I gave it high marks. Hoping it gets the A-Ok and it goes into production.

The top portion that you see is actually the bottom of the five, upside down. If anyone is interested in me sending the pattern to them by e-mail, just private message with your e-mail address and I'll send the files. You print out each file separately and then take the two pieces of paper and line up the lines and tape them to form the 5. Then you are ready to glue the pattern onto the wood.

June found something on the web that you could also use. It is a baking strip that is flexible and you can form it into any shape you want! It wasn't very long, so I don't know how many you would have to use, but it was really neat!
Well, what we did was take a…tag:cakeswebake.com,2012-09-14:4635016:Comment:10684802012-09-14T10:57:15.141ZLinda Wolffhttps://cakeswebake.com/profile/LindaWolff

Well, what we did was take a 2X10 by 6' piece of wood, and cut the wood into 2-10" squares that got glued to each other, one on top of the other. We clamped these while drying. Once they were dry, my husband glued a copy of the pattern onto the face of the wood, and then cut it out with a table scroll saw. Once the 5 was cut out, we had the hollow shell of the 5 and that is what you use for the form. You turn the wood so that it is facing backward. Then nail a flat thin piece of wood (1/4…

Then nail a flat thin piece of wood (1/4 inch thick) that has been cut into a 10"X10" square onto the bottom of it so that you have a bottom to the form. Take very thick heavy duty foil and start forming your pan on the inside of the backward 5. You can cut off the excess foil once you are satisfied with the thickness. I used a font in my simple paint program to create the 5, and just made the 5 to fit the size of the box in paint. Then I cut that image down in two sections on paint so that when I printed the pictures out, I would have to piece the two pieces together to make a large enough 5. I'll add the pattern that I came up with.

Mandy Nel said:

Happy Friday everyone. I'm going to have a lovely day today - cooking, baking and decorating, my favourite pastimes. Sculpting, ganaching (?) and fondanting cake for tomorrow, icing cupcakes, making bubble and squeak for dinner tonight and maybe time for an apple pie, with apples from the garden. Life is good!

Don't know how I missed this one....last month I had a lady ask for a number 50 cake in the shape of the numbers that was going to feed quite a few people, so I had my husband actually cut the number 5 out of 4" thick wood, and then he cut out a perfect number 5 and was just getting ready to cut out the zero, when the gal called up and wanted me to go cheaper. I told her that we had already started on the cake forms for foil to be inserted inside to make pans and that the biggest expense was already done, and that the price was still standing at what I quoted her. She e-mailed me the next day, and told me to just go ahead and make a sheet cake instead so that it wouldn't cost so much. I was furious. Stupid me, I hadn't charged her a deposit for those wooden forms. The fiftieth birthday party was in two days. I wrote back to her and told her that there would be no sheet cake and that she had better call a grocery store or a bakery because I wouldn't be making her cake. People like that I can do without. Thank God my grandson's 5th birthday is coming up in December. Baking a single layer cake should work with our cake form, and he will have a number 5 so there will be no waste.

Joann Gottermeyer said:

And then I had a phone call from someone who wants a cake in the shape of a stage, with lights, scaffolding and sound so that it resembles a concert, with gumpaste figures - 5 of them - that are made to look like each of the actual band members plus some other one hanging off the scafolding.....and then tells me she has a budget of $75. "You can do it, can't you??" Ummmmm....no. Sorry. Too bad Charlie. I need a vacation.....
