Thank you, Lisa. Not really worried, just wondering. I appreciate the compliment! Thanks so much for taking the time to reply!
Hi, my name is Jaime, and this is my entry for "JJ's Amateur All Occasion Cake Contest!"

I made this cake for my mother's birthday... it is a homemade fresh strawberry cake with strawberries and cream filling and vanilla buttercream frosting. My mother's passion is her cottage garden, and I wanted to represent the whimsical and carefree nature of it with loosely piped vines and leaves.

Sorry to those who were worried about their cakes getting on the list, I've had a very busy week in my actual life which has required me to divert some attention from my virtual life.  Never fear, the latest entries have been posted, and I will close this discussion to replies some time tonight, so if you've got a cake you want to enter get it up soon!

You did awesome!!

My family only appreciates cakes of the mildly sweet and non-iced variety (which poses some difficulty for an aspiring cake decorator!) so, thanks to JJ, I've been given an excuse to break out the colours and creativity for my first ever cake decorating contest! I've only taken to decorating in the last few months - this is only my 3rd attempt at piping - so I jumped at the chance to practice and faced my first real cake decorating nightmare in a buttercream icing that simply wouldn't crust enough to be smoothed with a paper towel and, oh, the unspeakable horrors of a brown crumb-speckled white buttercream! I'm sure you all can relate. Regardless, I'm hoping for more excuses to work with my piping bags...

Cheers!

Thanks for the encouragement, Adelle! That buttercream almost had me at wits' end... but I'd do it all over again :)

Hey Friends!

Just wanted to let you all know that I haven't forgotten about you.  I got a lot of great entries (more than I was expecting) and I want to give each cake the attention it deserves :)  That coupled with a really busy weekend at my shop means I haven't quite finished the judging, but do not despair!  I promise I will post the winners here by the end of the day on Monday.

Thank's for your patience, and have a great weekend!

We Have A Winner!  Sorry for the delay, but at long last I have sifted through a bunch of really great cakes, and managed to come up with one that I feel exemplifies the all occasion cake, adhered to the specific contest criteria, and shows excellent effort from an amateur My winner is:

Olivia Elias

and Second place goes to:

Genevieve

Congratulations!
