Individual wedding cake slices per guest as favours - HELP!

Hi everyone,

I hope you are doing well.  I have a bride who is requesting individual cake slices per guest at her wedding.

Has anyone does this before and can provide some advice on how to go about doing this? Are there special individual slice cake pans?  I can't see myself baking a cake and then cutting into little triangles!!

And how would you price something like this? Covering each one in fondant and maybe with a little flower or simple design...I have also seen little cake slice boxes that you can slip these cakes into.

Any thoughts?

TIA!!!

I love to do wedding cakes BUT there are some things I will not do again and this is it. Along time ago I was asked to serve the wedding cake at the reception, I said OK, thinking 2 hrs at the most. I set cake up but didn't know it would not be served to the guests there. It was to be placed in little boxes for the guest to take home as they left. All I can say is it was a messy job getting a slice in those small cake boxes plus having to stay till the end of reception. It was a long, long night.  Sorry not much help for you here, just my experience.

Thank you Betty for your response.

I would not be doing the boxing at the wedding, but rather have these ready prior to as guest favors to hand out.

I can imagine the nightmare of doing this at the wedding!! eeeps!

Mizztry, in this country it is customary for any guests that can't attend the wedding or are not able to be invited to be sent a small slice of wedding cake in a little box afterwards.  This is always the actual cake itself cut into individual slices.  I would suggest that is what you do.  Make the cake as you would normally, then cut it!  This is what I did for a Christmas present -

If you do that option, then just charge a bit extra for the time cutting it.

Or you can make the basic cake, then cut it and decorate them individually.  This is what I did for these -

If you do this option, you will obviously have to charge more as it will take much longer to decorate them.

Best advice I can offer, I'm afraid.

How many portions ? What shape [the boxes are certain shapes] ?

She wants her wedding cake cut into individual slices and packaged before the wedding?

Or would you be doing it during the reception?

Is she, and her husband, are not going to do the traditional "cutting of the cake" ?

Being realistic with costings:

1. cake plus decoration, plus

2. packaging plus decoration [they are usually decorated], plus

3. cutting  $1-$3 per slice plus

4. time

.... calculation 3-4 times the usual cost per slice ..

$$$

I would suggest to make little individual cakes, like a 3 inch round and decorate that with fondant and gum paste decorations or whatever is easier for you that she would like.  You can place these in boxes or cellophane bags that they have for big cookies and tie a nice ribbon with a little tag maybe. If you like the idea, I would use the fact that this will also keep the cake fresh because its covered in buttercream and fondant or what ever you use under your fondant.  If you slice the cake, then put them in the box, by the time the guests eats it, the cake will be stale.  Just a suggestion, good luck! God bless!
