Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone could please advise me.... I have to make cupcakes for the weekend with red roses as cupcake toppers. I can make roses but it is very time consuming and I have to make 60 of them. Is it acceptable to use silicone moulds that I have to make the roses. They are still very nice but quite a bit flatter than roses that would be made by hand. Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Lorraine,

The moulds are Ok, but as you say can look a little flat. Have you asked your client what they want (assuming its not for yourself). You could show them a photo of each and see what they think.

If you want to go with making your own roses I found a super easy way of making them on YouTube http://youtu.be/Y9UZfg13yqc it really does look easy & a nice effect for a small cupcake. I tend to use shortening instead of icing sugar as I use a silicone mat - but I guess thats personal choice. I hope its helped.

Keep us posted on how you get on.

All the best, Tracy x

Thanks for posting that link Tracy, it's fantastically simple yet effective and above all quick, for those times when you don't need an overly detailed rose. I have 120 wedding cupcakes to do in January and I think I'll be using this type of technique to do them.

OMG Tracy

I have a tutorial I use, but this one looks SOooo wicked easy.  Gonna try for my christening cake this wknd.

Thank you very much for this info. I have a problem doing roses, But i will no longer thanks to you and the lady in the video..

Hi Tracy, I tried this out tonight and it worked great. Not nearly as time consuming as my normal method of making roses. I love this and will continue to make smaller roses using this method. Thanks very much for the link. Regards. Lorraine. X Tracy Deadman said:

I'm so very pleased Lorraine :).
I just love YouTube. Being self taught, It has been my teacher and a great source of inspiration along with Google and a million books on sugarcrafting. Can't wait to see how the cupcakes look, I'm sure they will be beautiful.
Happy baking, love Tracyx
