I had my first and second wilton classes this week and I signed up for course two. Everyone gave great reviews on my cake, both decorating and flavor, except my mom who said my buttercream was flavorless and called it "Crisco cream." Anyway.... I made mini cupcakes for the children at my church and they went to town on those chocolate treats, even had a sweet request for vanilla ones next week; of course I said yes. Finally, I posted on Facebook that I needed a stand mixer but couldn't afford a kitchen aid so I ordered a less expensive one only to have my fiance`s mom give me one!! Yes, I'm a proud owner of the kitchen aid artisan mixer!!!!

Hope everyone had a week like mine!

Congrats on the new mixer.  I was actually thinking of buying another one when I saw the great deal at Kohl's back in August but then I didn't.  Hopefully mine will last a lot longer.  As far as your mom not liking your buttercream, I have to admit I'm not a fan of American buttercream with shortening but I have to admit I find it a lot better to pipe than the Swiss Meringue Buttercream.

Very tired...made the debutant's cake while standing. I never sit when I make the cake, from start to finish, just about 17 hours straight. Rest period is just few minutes when I'm having my meals.

I am going to try different types of buttercream to see what I like best. I've used buttercream before but my mom never had any of mine. I got the feeling she was just being snobby about it. I've never had her buttercream, she has always used the pre-made frosting, nothing wrong with it, but she was very insulting about it. Also, when I told her I was getting the mixer, she just rolled her eyes. I was worse than a kid on Christmas Eve waiting for my new "toy" and she couldn't have cared less. I guess I'm so bothered because SHE taught me to bake, SHE showed me nearly everything I know and I wouldn't be doing this if not for her. I`'ve really been thinking about starting a small home business or getting a part time job at a bakery.

Congrats on the mixer Jackie.  sorry to hear your Mum has such a negative attitude - maybe she's jealous?

I'm not a fan of the crisco cream either lol - I like good old fashioned straight forward 'English' butter icing.  Just butter and icing sugar, plus any flavouring and whipped and whipped until it's light and fluffy.  It is harder to pipe clean lines with though, but tastes way better.  My week was hectic - Louboutin shoe and box cake (check out my photos), plus a Game of Thrones theme.  One collected Saturday, the other delivered on Sunday.  So today is going to be spent cleaning up the war zone that is my dining table and kitchen!
