The fondant/gumpaste needs to be nice and soft and warmed up. Use a little shortening or glycerine to soften it up if you need it. Roll it into a cylinder shape slightly smaller than the shaft of the gun and cornstarch the heck out of the inside of the shaft and the outside of the fondant/gumpaste cylinder. I like bakels gumpaste and fondx fondant (the fondx doesn't dry out as fast as satin ice).
i found this too. hope it helps. good luck!
Jen, is the clay -gun and the sugar craft gun the same?
It would be nice to have a picture of it, so we can see. It probably is the same, but not sure. I would do as Jen says to do before you add your paste into the gun.
Thanks for the replies, very much appreciated. I will definately keep at it.
yes, they are the same. i don't personally have the "gun" style but i have a clay extractor and the wilton press (that looks like a garlic press). i think the gun holds more material and the hand leverage has to be a lot easier than the extractor!
Hi Jen, I went to the link that you posted and read the comments, this is the same gun that I bought, the link gives me a better understanding of it. Thanks for that.

I have the same one. I have only used it with fondant. The fondant does need to be fairly soft. I also grease the inside of the tube and both sides of the disk with vegetable shortening (Crisco in the USA).
If the problem is that you are having a hard time getting the fondant to come out (repeatedly pressing the handle with no luck), then tighten the screw that is attached to the plunger and be sure before you start, to push the plunger down against the fondant. That compacts it and then pressing the handle should push it out smoothly. If not, you may have a defective gun.
