Save some of the black fondant ( or the color you are using). First brush as much off with a clean food safe brush. Then using a small ball of black fondant buff the area lightly. Going in small round strokes.

If the ball is sticky add cornstarch or powdered sugar and work that in until you can touch the ball to the cake and the two do not stick together. You may want to buff all the black fondant.

Another way is to add a little shorten to a clean paper towel and rub the spot, but that will make it shine.

Meera said:

Hi ladies,

Along the same lines of this discussion...how do you get rid of powdered sugar off black fondant? OMG it's like the worst thing everrr! And i dont want to use a wet brush because then the water makes these lines on it and it becomes shiny!!

Any thoughts???

I use a steamer myself that I picked up on sale. The one thing is make sure that the water doesn't build up and drip on your cake that's if you have a hose and all... I have done the vodka thing but it doesn't work as nice

Karo is a brand of corn syrup Taina. Sorry the technique didn't work. I have heard aplying piping gel will make fondant shiny, although I have never tried it myself on a whole cake. Just on small accent pieces.

You don't need a steamer necessarily. You can make up a mix of equal parts of vodka and white Karo syrup and brush it on or thin it with more vodka and put it in a spray bottle and mist your fondant with it. This is especially great for bows and small accent pieces but will work on your whole cake as well. To stick pieces of fondant together, mix some small bits of gumpaste or fondant into a little bit of water and use it as "glue". Apply it with a a small paintbrush or the tip of your…

Interested in how your cake looks after it dries Taina. I posted above I bought a steamer. Well it worked great, & the 3rd time I went to use it, it broke. Leaked like a sieve all over my kitchen counter. I know the only steamers that last long & work well are those used for clothing. They have the long hose. But even on sale, the price is prohibitive for me. Can't justify the price. So will resort to the tips & tricks stated here. :0)
