Karo is a brand of corn syrup Taina. Sorry the technique didn't work. I have heard aplying piping gel will make fondant shiny, although I have never tried it myself on a whole cake. Just on small accent pieces.
Hi Chendra,
I use a food lacquer. called Glanz, it's German, The brand is 'Ruth' I have a motor bike helmet cake in my photos where I have used it.
Save some of the black fondant ( or the color you are using). First brush as much off with a clean food safe brush. Then using a small ball of black fondant buff the area lightly. Going in small round strokes.
If the ball is sticky add cornstarch or powdered sugar and work that in until you can touch the ball to the cake and the two do not stick together. You may want to buff all the black fondant.
I buy makeup brush set for all my fondant work. I only use the brushes for fondant and gumpaste etc.
Another way is to add a little shorten to a clean paper towel and rub the spot, but that will make it shine.

Hi ladies,
Along the same lines of this discussion...how do you get rid of powdered sugar off black fondant? OMG it's like the worst thing everrr! And i dont want to use a wet brush because then the water makes these lines on it and it becomes shiny!!
Any thoughts???
The shinny cakes only lasts about 3hr i steam to set the colour and also to get rid of the powder sugar. At least my cakes dont stay shiny for long. Hope this helps.
