Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

I've posted replies to a few things, but I have so many questions... I hope y'all don't get tired of me, lol!  I REALLY want to make my cake hobby into a business, but I have no idea how to go about it.  Do I need a license of some sort to start?  If I do, how do I go about getting it?  Where do I look to see the requirements for where I live?  Can I operate out of my home?  Should I just worry about word of mouth work and do cakes for "friends" for a while?  if I decide to go that route, can I still use my business cards that have my "business name" on them?  I really like my name, and I don't wanna give it up, lol!  Any help you can offer will be GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks!
Jennifer

Here's some state info Sherry posted a while back. This should let you know about licenses - http://www.cakeswebake.com/forum/topics/home-bakery-information-state

Google your existing business name and make sure someone close to you isn't already using it.

Purchase a domain name with your company name if it is available. You can always put up a free blog site and use your URL to forward traffic to the blog.

I do word of mouth, mostly friends, but if I see an opportunity for someone else I grab it. I have business cards, a domain name, a blog and dedicated email account.
