Hi I am actually looking at doing a basket weave with fodant for a cake, I was reserching it and came across this post. I was wondering if you ended up creating the practice cake you were talking about and how it worked for you? Looking forward to hearing from you, I'm very curious : )
I just watched the video. It didn't seem any more time consuming than the traditional way of BC - and less straining on the back, arms and hands!
Give it a try!!

It seems like this should be easier than butter cream. Also it occurs to me, you could totally use strips of fondant to just weave a long narrow "scarf" and then just wrap it around your cake.

JJ- I was thinking the same thing - even if full length strips were to be too cumbersome, any comfortable length would be easier than 1 inch at a time.
