A while back some of the cakers at the  wilton.com forums did an experiment with this and it worked fine.  They generally froze it in a ziplock bag, removed the extra air and then when it was defrosted would cut a corner in the bag to get it into the pan.  I keep wanting to try it but always forget when I am making cuppies.  No harm in giving it a try the next time you have some.  Better than throwing it out if you don't want to make more cake or cuppies right away.

Tks, may be worth a try.
