A friend just asked me to do a chocolate fudge cake with chocolate buttercream for this weekend. No problem at all but then she wants white fondant over it with pretty colored fondant decorations. I haven't put white on top of chocolate buttercream so I was wondering if anyone knows if it will bleed through. I am doing a small test tonight but don't want to waste time if it definitely won't work.
Thanks ahead of time.

I find that the ganache is a lot more stable and firmer to work with than buttercream. If you have a look at my gallery, a majority of the cakes there have dark chocolate ganache underneath the fondant; even under white fondant it doesn't show through.
Good luck with it and dont' forget to post pics of the finished product!
We tried it and it worked out great. One of the kids in the family couldn't have heavy cream products, so we didn't do the ganache this time but we will definitely give it try when we do my daughter-in-laws baby shower cake! We posted a few pictures. It is the Dora and Diego Cake. I really need to post more of our pictures on here. Thanks for the great advice!
