Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

I haven't made flowers other than frangipannis (plumeria) because I had no interest in that sort of cake decorating. I do novelty cakes and cakes that have a lot of gumpaste figures. My attempts at making roses years ago just confirmed my suspicions about my flower making ability. I could make really pretty coloured cabbages, but not roses as such.

So when I was asked to do a wedding cake with blue lillies I thought,Crap! Then I thought, well why not? The time has come to have a go.

Last year I started taking some lessons from a retired cake decorator and am more confident about tackling flowers. Even though these are blue, my aim is to make flowers that people say, "are they real?"

Anyway back to my lillies; the bride wants blue lillies and white roses. These are the start of the lillies that I have made.

Thanks Les. I was so nervous about this, and I'm with you. I thought blue lilly's???? No for the white cabbages er....roses. LOL
Very pretty missy!  I love them!  Flowers are so challenging.  I love stepping outside the comfort zone and going for it sometimes!  You did a fantastic job on these!
have another go with the roses i KNOW you can do it, i dont know if your trying to do them with single petals but if you are try doing them with a five petal cutter (like a wild or dog rose) and then layering the petals about 5 rows should do it thats how i do mine, hope that helps!
