Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

I have a set of Wilton pens and a couple of Americolor pens.  I hate the Wilton because they don't give me a good solid line when I use them.  I normally have to go back over what I've written and it just doesn't look good.  The Americolors tend to give me better coverage but I think they are too fine pointed.  Does anyone use the Kopycake pens?  Any other brands I need to check out or stay away from?

I have never had good luck with the edible ink pens.  : (  I pipe just about everything, but I did make a tattoo cake once that I just couldn't pipe.  I made the "tattoo" a fondant plaque and used non-toxic crayola markers, and I told them not to eat it.  It worked in a pinch, but I wouldn't do it on anything that couldn't be removed.

I agree on the Wilton pens.  Do you know if anyone makes a brush-tip edible marker? I'd buy those!!  I prefer instead to use food coloring mixed with Vodka.  I used that last night to make a "card" for a cake. Fine-tipped brush worked great for getting a good line.

I use the vodka too and just spend the extra $ on a good set of paint brushes from art supply department at Micheals. Works well I have also use my airbrush colors mixed with vodka to paint as well.

I'm not too sure if this will be a good suggestion or not but you might want to all look into this and judge for yourself.

These self-contained cylinder type brushes are made by ZIG with several different types of tips, sounds like what you are all talking about.  Since I fill the cylinder with what I want, it is always being washed so  guess you could easily make them food safe with your sterilization method of choice.

ZIG, Brush2o by EK Success.  You can get these at Michaels or any craft stores, not sure about Walmart.

I use these in my card and paper crafts with my inks and water mixture.  So why not sterilize them and place your favorite food color and vodka then go paint!  Again there are MANY different brushes from Wide to pointy thin.  They are NOT expensive in my opinion and last forever!!  I hope you can look at them and see if this will be you choice.

I hope I have contributed to this discussion.
