Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

Not to offend anyone who's into this, but are we serious?  This is a thing we're going to do?  I don't know, I just find it a little disturbing.  I don't know which bothers me more the cakes that resemble life-like babies, or the ones that are just decorated with disembodied parts.  Don't get me started on the pathology at work in the person that wants to eat the baby...

Again, nothing personal, just stirring the pot a little here...  So, who's doing this, what's really the deal with it, etc...

You mean like this?  lol.  I just did this one for a baby shower, and everyone loved it!  I formed it without a mold, too, btw.  :)

Haha, yes like that... Very nice job on the feet, that's exactly what I mean.

Jennifer - are the legs and feet solid gumpaste/fondant or cake?
Yes, I would be interested in some step by step for this.

My legs and feet are actually cake pop mix.  I read somewhere that another person used rice crispy treats but I went with cake and it worked out fine.  I just formed them and refrigerated them until they were firm and then covered them with mmf.  They are placed around a half dome cake, which serves as the butt.

Here's the tutorial I used - http://cakecentral.com/articles/426/baby-shower-how-to-make-a-baby-...

BTW, I baked the butt part in a 2 qt Pyrex bowl - perfect shape.

That's the same tutorial I read, but I didn't exactly follow!  I tend to get the general idea of things and then do my own thing.  Good resource though.

I have not done one but I don't think I could cut into a the baby and eat it.  I hope I never get a request for one but if I do you have to try to please the customer, right?

You also have to draw the line somewhere

Didn't Jonathan Swift propose something among those lines in "A Modest Proposal"?

Mmmmmm Baby Diapers, so appetizing!

Well, sure...but is that the line?  I mean, it's not outwardly vulgar...it's a perspective.  And in that case, why not?  I think I would draw the line at an explicit cake, but a baby butt?  I don't have to eat it!
