Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

Hi,

Any tips on how I can go about doing this desk? I am thinking to stack cakes and then just carve the middle bit... and cover in black fondant.

How do i get the glass look in the middle of the desk and one of the drawers? No clue!!

Any help would be great! I've attached a pic!

You could melt clear hard candy to make a panel, or use isomalt if you want to go the 'totally edible' route. Otherwise I might just 'cheat' and cut a piece of clear plastic from a package or something.

Wow- I've done lots of carved cakes, but never a desk!  This one could be tricky!  Good luck!

Thanks Jackie....how exactly do you melt the candy?  And i suppose i have to make a mould to hold the hot melt once i'm ready to pour it?
Meera - I noticed on GlobalSugarArt.com they've started selling isomalt sticks, pre-colored, that you can melt for sugar work.  You might check there.

I saw an episode on "fabulous cakes", they made a dresser with a drawer open. Maybe wht they did could help you, although iy was a huge cake, but you could down size wht they did I suppose.

However the look they acheaved was for the drawer open and they made glass looking handles. Might not be wht your looking for.

Ladies...I made the desk cake this weekend and the birthday guy loved it!! I will put up a picture shortly...!!

The final cake.... :)
