Please I need some advices on how to cover a 14" square cake with fondant. I'm afraid the fondant would dry while I'm rolling it out, because that's a big cake!!! I'd appreciate any tip, advise, tools, etc.

Do you own the "Mat"? It is 2 large sheets of food grade plastic you place your fondant inbetween to roll out your fondant. Even if you don't, I have rolled out fondant that large, hard on the shoulders & arms, but doable. It never dried out. You work quickly, and if you have to take a break for a minute or two, you cover the fondant with plastic wrap.  So a 14x3", or 14x2", you would need 20-21" rolled out for good coverage.  I have to admit being short, 5' 3 1/2", was hard to get any strength into the rolling, so on large pieces, before I had the Mat, my hubby would help roll it out. He is 6'1". He has the height & the strength.

Hope this helps.

Hi June! Thanks for your help. I don't have the MAT...yet! But now that you mention it I'll look for it. I'm 5' 3" as well, and the largest cake I've ever covered it's been a 14" round, and it was a nightmare, I tried like 3 times before I got it right and smooth :( Thanks again for your comment it did help!!!!! Have a sweet day.

Hey Martha

Before you go & spend $$$$$ on the Mat, try buying foog grade vinyl @ Walmart. Apparently it comes in a long roll & you can cut the length you want.  When my Mat is shot, that is what I am going to do. Heck of a lot cheaper!!1

Ck it out.  :o)

Wow thank you so much! I really appreciate it. I'll look for it.
