Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

Hi everyone,

Ive spent hours looking at nozzels today and the more i look, the more im getting confused !

Ive noticed that they all have numbers and letters. Are these standard ?

I have 6 nozzels at the moment that was a set, they have numbers and letters on them.

I bought an extra one a ' closed star rose swirl' to do the pretty ' open rose' look on some cupcakes.

Although, i think i bought the wrong one. I have tried it and i cant do it !  It just looks a mess so i cried and gave up :-(

I dont know what im doing wrong? Is it my buttercream or me ?!!

I would love to be able to do this! But also i need a large one for this giant cupcake.

Does it need to be a particular one, like ' open star'  or 'closed star' ?

I dont know which would look best on a giant cupcake?

Thank you for any help

A very confused

Lisa

Lis

Way, way better Lis!  Hooray.  Your piping is lovely - especially that rose effect top right.

Oh these are lovely Lisa...... great job!!

Um..I got it right ? ?   lol

That was a shock ! Thank you both :-)

I wasnt sure if the piping was any good, just thought the buttercream was a little better! ( anything was better than earlier today & yesterday lol )

Unfortuntley, i hadnt got any butter left, i had new tub of Stork, thought id give it one last try....and i ruined my first attempt at the giant cupcake :_(   My own fault should of been patient !!

But at least  the piping  is better !!

I cant quite get it right to the edges of the cases, too scared to go over them !

I think it was definatley better using the block of butter, i will get some from Tesco tomorow and try it again.

It felt so much different though, much firmer, it was a bit of a shock when i started piping!

Im still having a prob with air in the bag though?

Thank you so much, couldnt of got it, without you both ;-)

This info might help you Lis filling your decorator bag.  It is basically what I do

Lisa, your piping is just lovely. It looks so good!

Hi Lisa. From reading your posts & others, and looking at the measurements given, I'm guessing you are not in the US, but I want to tell you the tip number I use for something like this - 1M. It is an open star tip, and quite large.

I agree with leaving out the milk - use only the flavoring for the moisture content. If it is too stiff, then add milk in very, very small amounts. If it becomes too thin, add more sugar & mix well.

Good luck!

Thank you so much Goreti :-) Thank you Julie S :-)

Unfortunatly, i wont be doing much piping practise for a while, the lady has asked for her mixer back. So i have nothing now. I dont know when i can borrow it again.

My best friend who i borrowed the larger mixer from, to do my birthday cake moved back home to Cardiff   shortly after so im kind of stuck ! LOL

Thank you all so much for your help

Oh Lisa this is a shame.  Why don't you look on Ebay for a second hand stand mixer?
