I have seen severalamerican receipes which call for coconut essence, or coconut flavouring, I can only locate Coconut oil here in Ireland , is that the same thing... or what should i use instead...thanks....Anne O Connor

I don't know if you have access to the LoRann Emulsions but their coconut is really great.

I do not think they are the same thing. Essentially "flavorings" here in the US are Alcohol based. For example: Several Vanilla Beans can be split and steeped in a Mason Jar of Vodka for several weeks to be used as Vanilla Extract.
However, if your Coconut Oil is being used as a flavoring it might work. Taste it. Does it TASTE like coconut? Another option depending on your recipe is Coconut Milk and just plain fresh flaked coconut.
