Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

Hello Cakes We Bake Family ~ I need help please.

I'm looking for a good chocolate cake recipe.  I normally bake cakes from scratch and have tested two recipes so far and did not like them.  The cakes came out too dry and I don't know if it's because of the cocoa I used or what.  I'm not much for chocolate unless it's a good recipe.  I need to make a graduation cake this week-end and am cutting it down to the wire.

I know thhis is an old post .  The link to the Hersheys cake does not work anymore??  Does anyone have the recipe or how I can find it? Or is this the recipe on the side of the Hershey's Cocoa box that I heard others talk about?  Thanks

This is the moistest cake I have ever made. I once had someone cancel her cake order after I had frosted it, and I served it 4 days later to my guests, and it was still the moistest cake ever. I then sent the leftovers to work with my husband the next day, and they said it was the best they had ever had!

Hey Fran

It wouldn't work for me either, so I just googled Hersheys website, it came up them I searched for the cake recipe.

As far as a "chocolatey" cake. I do have a scratch recipe I use.  But when I am using a chocolate cake mix, I add 2 tblsp of instant coffee to the water ( heat it up, of course ), add 1/2 cup of sour cream, oil, and 2 heaping tblsp of cocoa, 1/2 cup sugar, 3 eggs. Makes a rich, dense, moist chocolate cake.

Thanks for responding.......When ou add those extra ingredients when making a box mix, is that 1/2 cup of oil?  So instead of what is on the box, I just use your ingredients?

Well Fran, depends on the cake mix. Here in Canada we may some of the same cake mixes, but ingredients might be slightly different. I ususally add the amount of oil called for on the pkg. The only time  I  may add more is if I think the batter is too thick. Then I put a splash more.
