Candy Melts On Buttercream Frosting

I've put them on top of the cake and had no problems at all with them melting or anything (see my Merry Fishmas Cake here: http://www.cakeswebake.com/photo/merry-fishmas-cake?context=user- the letters are done with candy melts in molds). I've never tried attaching them to the sides, so don't know how well they would stick.
