I want to encourage anyone who may be interested in volunteering for Icing Smiles to sign up.  This organization is wonderful to work with!  I just recently received my first call from them and can't begin to express how fantastic the whole experience was.  They are highly organized and appreciative of their volunteers.  The joy I got from making the recipients cake was something I will never forget!

I emailed them and they put me on a list for Houston.  They also said that the need in Houston was not high which is shocking because we have the Texas Medical Center, MD Anderson Cancer Institute and several large children't hospitals in the area.  I am a former pediatric nurse-7years-now a trauma nurse so I know firsthand what these kids go through...I hope I am offered the opportunity the bake a cake for one of these sweet babies.

The need may not be high yet as the hospitals etc. are not aware of the program.  My family found out through a packet of information given to them from the Cancer Society but the hospital staff had never heard of it.  I think the needs will rise as word of the program gets out to others. 

I hope you get the opportunity to contribute to a family someday Julie.  It's an amazing experience!
