I don't use anything - just make them all by hand. I know some people that have used a melon baller or small scoop to make them so they are all uniform in size. HTH
I use a small cookie dough scoop/mashed potato scoop, that has the lever so it comes back out. That makes them all uniform, when I get it out of the scoop, I just press it gently by hand to seal up any gaps or cracks but they start out all uniform that way and have a flat bottom.
I use my melon baller and then when I take them out I roll them in my hand and plop them on wax paper. :)
Hi - I have heard so much about cake balls and never made any. I would like to give it a shot this week - how fine do you break up the cake?? Do you put it in a food processor until you get like a bread crumb or do you use bigger chunks of cake.
I cannot wait to give it a try. Thank you.
I just mash it up with my hands, then wash my hands, add the moistener, frosting, fruit filling, liquor, etc, then mash that all together with my hands, then wash them again and use the scoop and put them on waxed paper.

I have a very simple recipe - 2 cups cake, crumbled. Add 2 TBS powedered sugar, 1 shot of moistener (amaretto, french vanilla liquid coffee creamer, etc). Mix in my mixer. Roll out the cake balls and let rest on a cookie sheet covered with parchment paper. You can also add chopped nuts, mini m&m's, chocolate chips. My family also loves them when I have dipped them in chocolate as well.

Enjoy!

Thanks for replies - definetely going to try them this week.
powdered sugar? I have never added that to mine... hmm may have to try it. When I crumble mine up, I put them in a big ziploc baggie and just squish, then add my binder (frosting, liquor, or coffee creamer) to it and squish some more. It works great, easy clean up and I dont have to put my hands in it... lol.
i that how ya make them i been looking for a cake ball pan lol ok i try that too but what if i have to make 300 of them si there a pan or is it fast by hand thank ya all
I use my scoop from pampered chef... it works perfectly. Try a bit of ganache in them... mmmmm.
To my knowledge, there isn't a "cake ball pan". I think you will have to do them a bit at a time by hand or by scoop!

Deb I believe you are right... they are not baked because the cake is already baked... you just take your cake scraps and crumble them up and add your binder and then I like to dip them in chocolate for an added touch.
