Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

While reading up on how to make the color "periwinkle" or any other color in the purple/violet shade...Make sure to use MILK (instead of water or vegetable oil) to avoid your icing having blue casts. Guess that's why in some of my pictures the purple flowers look blue. Did you know or have you tried this??? I have lots of this color flower to make for cc's, going to give it a try & see.

I wonder why that is Betty?  I always use milk in my butter icing, but then I make it differently to you guys over there.  Be interested to hear how it works for you

I always use milk in my icing too, that I put on cake but use water when I make a lot of flowers because they keep longer when they are air dried, except sometimes when I need them on short notice, then I just use the cake icing to make a few quickly.

Maybe that's why some of my pics with purple turn out blueish in the photo. I thought it had something to do with my computer color spectrum. Doesn't seem to bother any other color. Will have to remember when using purple to use frosting made with milk.
