Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

Hi everyone,

I just joined this wonderful community of people and I am just so glad that I found this site and may I take this opportunity to say thank you to everyone.

I have a problem with my baking technique and I just wondered if you all lovely people out here can be of help.

I use the same recipe for my sponge cake all the time and they usually turn out well but last night was a disaster. The cake turned out soggy and so oily as well as sticking to the pan.

I put a lot of butter on the tin because of the fear of the cake sticking to the pan. I followed your recipe of the home made cake release and I will be using that today.

I guess my question is are there any known pitfalls that I can avoid to avoid this kind of disaster.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Abi

Did you use butter AND the cake release on the pan? The cake release alone should do the trick. If that is the only thing your changed that may be your culprit. Other than that, did you change brands of any ingredients, new bags of anything?
Thanks Deah.

No I just used butter. I will be trying the cake release tonight as I have to make another one for a friend

I did not change any of my ingredients either
