Baking 3 Slim Rectangle cakes with 3 different flavors - HELP

Hi everyone,

I have a client who is looking for 3 rectangles ...sizing of 4x11 or 5x11 or even 4x12, 5x12...

She also wants 3 different flavors, and each rectangle would say "HAPPY" "BIRTHDAY" "NAME" on top of it.  What is the best way to make these slim rectangles?  I have a loaf pan which the biggest is 4x9.  And I do not want to make so much cake and it be wasted.  I offered to do 8x4, but it is too small for her.

Is there anyway to bake 2 different flavors in one pan? Like a sheet pan? I've never done it but it would save me so much time in baking.

Anyone have any thoughts on how they would approach this? And how much would you charge?

Thank you for your help!!!

Meera, I had to make a cake that was thinner than my pans once too. I used a piece of cardboard the length of the pan and as tall as the pan and covered it with heavy duty aluminum foil, then taped it on the side that wouldn't be getting batter right to the bottom and sides of the pan. I would imagine that if your pan is at least 8" wide, you could place the foil covered cardboard strip right down the middle and pour one batter on one side, the other batter on the other side, if you are trying to save time. Otherwise, you could just bake each one separately as I explained in the first part of my post. I did my thinner layers for my grandson's Toy Story birthday cake when I made 'Andy's bed' and the cake was the mattress. I hope this will trigger some ideas for you.

Hi Linda...I had the same idea as you...putting something in the middle of the pan to separate the 2 flavors, but  I wasn't sure what and am concerned that what if one batter leaks into the other!? lol...

Cardboard in heavy duty foil will do the trick??

yup, worked like a charm.

Question - were you going to do layers in these rectangles?  If so, you could bake a 12x12 then cut it into thirds and stack the thirds and you'd get a 4 x 12 of the same flavor.  Does that make sense?

That does make a LOT of sense, Eileen! Good head on your shoulders.
