I guess it depends on how much cake you need. Could you do a cake that is half of each? I love those tiered cakes that are one thing on the front and another thing on the back. ;-)

Or a train going through a princess-y forest maybe?

Good Idea.. the cake needs to feed 50-60. I was thinking about the 2-3 tier cake a doing a tier for each child.
thanks for the idea.

I saw an adorable storybook cake once, that told a short tale, while brilliantly interweaving seemingly-unrelated themes. The scene was 2D; it was sculpted/cut out of fondant, then laid on the cake.

Maybe the princess could be a mermaid, which would make it easy to incorporate the dolphins. There are a couple ways the train could be introduced into the story, such as the mermaid princess waving to the conductor of the train, as he rides through the island town ... gosh, I kinda like that, lol. I dunno, just a thought. :)
A princess on a train... with dolphins swimming next to it???? Just kidding :-) I like the tired cake with a tier for each one... you could do a small top tier with their age on the side of it.
