Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

Hello! I am having a hard time trying to fondant large cakes! My smaller cakes are just fine, but for some reason I cant get my 16" cake to work. My big 20" Wilton fondant roller is not big enough, it tears when I try to lift it on cake, uneven thickness in fondant.....Any suggestions would be appreciated. I have my first fondant wedding cake due at the end of the month! Oh I miss the days of buttercream.....!

hi Billie personally i use "the mat" as well definatelylknow what you mean when icing big cakes!!! but very expensive here in the UK as it has to be imported but another alternative and much less expensive is to slide the icing onto a very large cake drum position over the cake and then simply tip and slide it off - works a treat.

Les, what a simply great trick! I shall try that, Thank you!
