Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

I was very excited to see a Cricut Cake class offered, but saw that it was $500.  The class is actually more expensive than the Cricut Cake itself, and before I commit to spending that much money I wanted to know if it's actually worth it.

Has anyone taken any classes by Cutting Edge Cake Art?

Here's the link to the actual class:  http://www.cuttingedgecakeart.com/store/product_info.php?cPath=23&a...

Here is a video from Youtube that may be helpful.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W-UlvSYz5FU

I recently had the opportunity to spend a weekend with Chef Mike Terry, CMSA at Chocopan's University of Sugar Art.  Chef Terry's background is amazing in every area of the cake decorating world. He had the Cricut, Zing and SIlhouette (Linda McClure edition) and he spent time showing me all the differences and simliarities in all the machines.  Since we sell the Electronic cutting sheets, I wanted to get professional input on the advantages and disadvantages on each.  Hands down the Silhouette is the best.  While they will all work, if you are in the market for a new machine, definately go with the Silhouette.  First, one price and you have everything.  There are no cartridges to buy and everything that you need comes with Linda McClures Edition of the Silhouette (www.deseretdesigns.com).  She even gives you the proper method of using gumpaste.  What the Silhouette has that the Zing does not is it electronically lines everything up for you and automatically feeds the paper through.  He showed me how easily it just feeds the paper in and uses its 3 point registration to line everything up for perfect cutting each time.  With the software that comes with the machine, just as Laney describes it gives you endless possiblities.  In addiiton, with Linda's info, you will find that her expertise because she was the one who founded the method of using the electronic cutters with cake decorating, her information is tried and true!  I hope this helps!  I am attaching a cake that Chef Terry made using the our Icing Images electronic cutting sheets with the Linda McClure Edition of the Silhouette.  Amazing

I have one and love it. I only use store bought Wilton fondant for this machine. I got a great deal on it, $140 at Big Lots! Huge compliments whenever a cricut design is on a cake.

I have been looking at the Silhouette, much cheaper for me and it can do more than just cut fondant. I emailed Jeff, and he said the  desecret one comes with the cake blade and the paper blade :) Much cheaper for me to ship here too, So I am now looking into one of those instead of a cricut cake.

Not to mention you don't have to buy the expensive cartridges :-)

Exactly ! I actually downloaded the silhouette program last night, just made me want it even more ! Not just for cake decorating either ! you an make cupcake toppers, and cupcake wrappers with paper ! even boxes.  After my holiday I will certainly be putting all my money towards this !
