Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

I attempted my first FBCT last night.  I thought it went well but I checked it this morning and I'm a little disappointed.  It's kind of hard to explain so bear with me.

I used a #10 tip to fill in the large area, #5 for small areas.  I can see small gaps in the top layer of the icing (not all the way through) between the icing application runs - does that make sense?  Will the gaps fill in and disappear when the icing comes back to room temperature?

Probably not...try just refrigerating the transfer next time it will get plenty cold to flip. You can try filling in the holes with more buttercream.
Thanks Karen!
you might also try a little softer icing for your fill in color but go over the back of it with a little thicker buttercream to make it sturdy...but over piping the back of it will push it all together.
I would also use a small offset spatula to smooth the larger areas so there won't be any gaps...and Deah is right you may try making the icing a little more flowing...just a tbsp or 2 of liquid may make a big difference.
I use a little brush ... It works for me!
Thanks everyone. I'll give your suggestions a try.
I have had the same issue. I try to use thinner icing now when I fill in between the outline. It's like everything else, practice makes perfect.
No, it prob won't. When you fill in, dont draw lines, embed the tip into the icing and let it flow out from there, moving out like lava. Also, if u tape your image to glass, after you are done filling in, you can look at it from underneath and smoosh down any gaps or fill in with a brush before you freeze it.

HTH!
